p. Purifying their Hearts by Faith. Faich purify;
ing the Heart implipth two Things.
I. That the Believer maketh Confcienee of hi
inward Thoughts: Whereas Unbelievers, with th
Pharifees, make clean the outiide of the Cup, la
Lour to keep themfelves from grofs and (cand«
iousfins, but fuffer their Hearts to rove into
World of vain and wanton Thoughts, of pre
phane and fruitlefs Imaginations, and that with
out any Remorfe or Check of Confcicnce. i
That Faith puts a purifying Difpofithn into th
Heart-, fothat it loaths and detells fin, yea, an
ftrives againft ittho’ it cannot altogether purg
and free itfelf from fta. When the Heart is one
feafoned with Faith, it will not willingly ha
bour fin, but labour to work it out more aa
more. By this then, try the Truth and Souml
nefs of thy Faith, whether it hath wrought jj
thee a purging purifying Difpofition to ftrive a
gainft thy Corruptions, and to work them out jw
thine Heart more and more.
