DIVISION OF VULGAR FRACTIONS.
. Rule.
LAVING prepared the terms a? in Multiplication ; take
s quotient of the numerators, and of the denominators,
i they will exactly divide, for the numerator and denomi-
. tor of the fraction required ; but if that cannot be done,
t ultiply the dividend by the reciprocal of the divisor, for
I e quotient required.
; Note 1. By the reciprocal of a fraction, is meant the fraction got by
■! rerting its terms: So the reciprocal of * is and of 5 or * is j.,
: Note 2. A fraction is divided by an integer, by dividing the nume-
or by it, if possible; but if it will not exactly divide, then multiply
.: denominator by it.
Examples,
1, What is the quotient of y by -f ?
