It is regretted that, because of insufficient
entries, the Lorn, Morven, and Mull Provincial
Mod, which was to have been held at Oban on
4th June, has had to be cancelled.

association with Choir members from different
parts of the Highlands whom they would meet
at Perth. He also appealed to the parents to
encourage their children to acquire a knowledge
of the language which they already enunciated
so well. Mr. Alasdair MacKechnie, President
of the Ayr Branch, moved a vote of thanks to
the Chairman who, in turn, thanked Mr.
Maclsaac for his introductory remarks, and all
who had contributed to a very successful
evening. Mr. and Mrs. Maclsaac provided
hospitality at their Durward Hotel.

THE B.B.C. GAELIC ASSISTANT
Mr. Frederick E. G. MacAulay, M.A., who
takes up his duties as Gaelic Assistant on 1st
July, belongs to North Uist, is a former pupil
of Inverness Royal Academy and a graduate of
Edinburgh University, where he has also taken
the Diploma in Phonetics. For the past four
years he has been working for the Linguistic
Survey of Edinburgh University, and has been
engaged in recording and studying Gaelic
dialects. Mr. MacAulay served for a time in the
Royal Corps of Signals and in the Queen’s
Own Cameron Highlanders in which latter he
held a commission.
Mr. MacAulay is 29 years of age.
MR. MURDO MURRAY, M.A., H.M.I.S.
Mr. Murray, who belongs to Back, Lewis, has
retired from the School Inspectorate, in which
he has served since 1928, latterly in Ross and
Cromarty, and previously in the Lowlands,
Aberdeen, and Inverness-shire.
A graduate of Aberdeen University, Mr.
Murray served in the Gordons and Seaforths
in the First World War. He has contributed
to the Transactions of the Gaelic Society of
Inverness and to the pages of this Magazine,
and, as we wish him a long and happy retire¬
ment, we hope that he will feel inclined to use
some at least of his new leisure to do more
writing in Gaelic.
Mr. Donald J. Maclean.
Mr. Donald J. Maclean, who has been
appointed to succeed Mr. Alasdair Matheson
as Northern Organiser of An Comunn Gaidh-
ealach, has entered upon his duties and is busy
familiarising himself with the many tasks
that lie to his hand.
A native of Bernera, Harris, Mr. Maclean
was educated at the local school and at Inverness
Royal Academy. Thereafter he proceeded to
Glasgow University where, however, his course
of study was interrupted by war service. He
has had considerable experience of youth club
work and has written Gaelic comedy sketches.
Mr. Maclean is 35 years of age.
