and (2), the terms and conditions of the employ¬
ment of the proposed organiser, and to that
end resolve to appoint a committee of five
members to enquire and report these two
points to the Executive Council, who, if satisfied
as to the financial competency of An Comunn
to employ a Northern organiser, are authorised
to appoint such organiser on such terms and
conditions, and with such duties as the
Executive Council may determine.”
The original motion and the amendment
thereto were withdrawn, and the President’s
motion was unanimously adopted. The follow¬
ing special committee was appointed :—Mr.
Malcolm MacLeod, Glasgow, Mr. Charles
Campbell, Glasgow, Mr. Donald MacDonald,
Inverness, Mr. Donald Graham, Inverness,
and Mr. Alexander Fraser, Bishopton.
Captain George I. Campbell, Yr., of Succoth,
seconded by Mr. Malcolm MacLeod, moved :—
“ That the Propaganda Committee cease to
exist, and that there be in future a Northern
and Southern Propaganda Committee, each
Committee to be responsible direct to the
Executive Council.”
Miss Farquharson of Invercauld seconded, by
Mr. T. D. MacDonald moved, the previous
question, and on a vote being taken, 32 voted
for the motion, and 30 for the previous question ;
and the motion not having received the
necessary two-thirds majority, did not carry.
Mr. T. D. MacDonald moved :—“ That it be
remitted to the Executive Council to consider
whether it be advisable and practicable to
award a gratuity in excess of the prescribed
remuneration to each teacher of music who
prepares and qualifies a pupil to continue the
teaching of music in his or her district under
the auspices of An Comunn, and to give an
annual honorarium to such qualifying teacher
or teachers carrying on the work to the satis¬
faction of An Comunn, and that it be obligatory
on every such teacher to hold an annual concert
with the assistance of the pupils, the proceeds
of such concert to be exclusively in aid of the
expenditure involved in the services.” The
motion was adopted.
The motion by Mrs. Burnley Campbell of
Ormidale—“ That it be remitted to the Publica¬
tion Committee to consider again the whole
question of the position of the magazine, and
report,” was agreed to.
Captain George I. Campbell, Yr., of Succoth,
was appointed a Trustee of the Feill Funds, to
fill the vacancy caused by the retiral of Sheriff
J. R. N. MacPhail.
The President warmly and most cordially
thanked the members of the Local Committee
for their splendid arrangements for the National
Mod, and for their efforts to ensure its success.
Chief A. K. Beaton, Convener of the Local
Committee replied on behalf of his Committee
and the Gaelic Society of Perth. Thereafter,
votes of thanks were accorded to the Treasurer,
Mr. Robert MacFarlane, C.A., and to Mr. Neil
Shaw, Secretary, and his assistant, Mr. Hugh
MacPhee, for their services.
The President expressed to the Rev. Dr. G.
W. MacKay, the warm appreciation of the
Executive Council, of his services as Convener
of the Propaganda Committee for many years..
It was the earnest desire of all the members
that he would long be able to enjoy his well
earned leisure.
A report of the work of Clann an Fhraoich
was submitted by Mr. Iain Moffat-Pender,
during the course of which he intimated his
retirement from the office of Convener of the
Committee, and that Mr. George Marjoribanks
was willing to act in his place.
The vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Burnley
Campbell of Ormidale, to the President, brought
the meeting to a close.
