The trust is a sermon preached by a Church of Scotland minister at Kelso on 17 October 1721. The Rev Gabriel Wilson was parish minister at Maxton in the Scottish Borders. He delivered the sermon at the opening of the Church of Scotland's provincial Synod of Mers and Teviotdale. About the printerThe text was printed and sold 60 years later in Kilmarnock in 1781 by Peter M'Arthur. He had established the first printing press there in 1780. M'Arthur was both a printer and bookseller. By 1782 another printer, John Wilson, set up a printing business in Kilmarnock too. See also
