(V) Stair Douglas, died unmarried 8th April 1789.

(42) Sir William Douglas, fourth Baronet, born about 1730; died 16th May
1783. He married, 21st May 1772, Grace, eldest daughter and co-heir of
William Johnston of Lockerby, who died 25th March 1836, leaving: —

died 1796. (e) William Robert Keith (No. 49).
(43) Sir Charles Douglas, fifth Baronet, born March 1777 ; died 3rd Decem-
ber 1837. He succeeded his kinsman (see No. 37) as sixth Marquis of
Queensberry in 18 10, as the Marquisate and Earldom of Queensberry,
Viscounty of Drumlanrig, and Barony of Hawick and Tibberis were not
included in the regrant of 1706. (See Nos. 33 and 37 above). On 7th
June 1833 he was created BARON SOLWAY OF KlNMOUNT. He married,
13th August 1803, Caroline Scott, third daughter of Henry, third Duke
of Buccleuch. She died 29th April 1854. As the Marquis left no male
issue, the peerage conferred on him became extinct, but the other titles
devolved on his brother.
(44) John, seventh Marquis of Queensberry, born 1779; died 19th December
1856. He married, 16th July 1817, his cousin, Sarah, daughter of James
Sholto Douglas (No. 51). She died 13th November 1864, leaving an only
son : —
(45) Archibald, eighth Marquis of Queensberry, bom 18th April 1818. He
died, from an accidental explosion of his gun, 6th August 1858. He
married, 28th May 1840, Caroline, younger daughter of Sir William
Robert Clayton, Bt. They had : —
(a) John Sholto (No. 46).
(b) Francis William Bouverie Douglas, born 1847; killed by
fall over a precipice in Switzerland 1865.
(c) Rev. Archibald Edward Douglas, born 1850.
(d) James Edward Sholto Douglas, born 1855; married 1888;
died 1 89 1.
(46) John, ninth Marquis of Queensberry, born 20th July 1844; died 3 Ist
January 1900. He married, first, 26th February 1866, Sibyll, daughter of
Alfred Montgomery. She divorced him 22nd January 1887. He married,
secondly, 7th November 1893, Ethel, daughter of Edward Charles Weedon.
This marriage was annulled in 1894. By his first wife he had : —
(a) Francis Archibald Douglas, born 3rd February 1867; killed by
the accidental discharge of a gun 18th October 1894. On
26th June 1S93 he was created, in his father's lifetime,
Baron Kelhead of Kelhead, but as he died un-
married, this title became extinct.

(c) Alfred Bruce Douglas, born 22nd October 1870.
(d) Sholto George Douglas, born 7th June 1872. Married, 1895,
Loretta Mooney, and has : —
(1) Bruce Francis Sholto, born 1897.
(47) Percy, tenth Marquis of Queensberry, bom 13th October 1868. Mar-
ried, nth September 1893, Anna Maria, daughter of the Rev. Thomas
Walters, and has —
(a) Francis Archibald Kelhead, Viscount Drumlanrig, born 17th
January 1896.
