LETTER XV.
To Mrs Blackader.
My Dkarest Love, Sabbath, September 11.
I HAVjt. complied with your defire,
my own duty, and charitable office, to
write poor Mrs Cranfton. The Lord
blefs and fanctify the rod to her ; and O
what Tongs of praife have we to ling in
extolling the Lord for his mercy to us,
that he deals with us in quite a different
manner ! He brings us in by mercy,
goodnefs, and Angular providences ;
working great falvation and lignal deli-
verances for us, while he is fcourging in
others with iharp rods. O let us be as a
towardly kindly child, who needs not be
whipped into his duty, but that the fee-
ing the rod upon others, and making it
over our heads, may be fufficient to bring
us in to him. O let us, my deareft, as
you write me, ferve him cheerfully, and
have our hearts lifted up in his ways.
Let us not be like the children of Ifrael,
who fang his praife, but fdon forgot his
wondrous works. They tempted him;
but his grace muft be fufficient for us —
his ftrength muft be perfected in our
