Brawlinmuir ; latterly he removed to the large farm of Bog-
head of Kintore, where he died prior to 1830. He married,
and had issue -five sons and five daughters. Catherine
Beattie, the eldest daughter, married Archibald Falconer, by
whom she had seven sons, David, Eobert, William, John
(solicitor in Stonehaven), George, Archibald, and Alexander,
and four daughters, Catherine, Margaret, Jane, and Isabel. Jean,
the second daughter, married Beith, farmer, Tipperty,
parish of Fordoun, by whom she had three sons, David,
John, and James, and four daughters, Catherine, Jane,
Margaret, and Christian. Margaret, the third daughter,
married Ley, farmer, Knockback, by whom she had two
sons, David and James, and three daughters, Jane, Mar-
garet, and Mary. Isabel, fourth daughter, married William
Urquhart. Mary, fifth and youngest daughter, married George
Brown, builder, Kintore.
James Burnes, eldest son of David Burnes, farmer, Bog-
head of Kintore, rented the East Mains of Barras, in the parish
of Kinneff; he married, with issue five sons, William,
David, Alexander, John, and James, and four daughters,
Catherine, Isabel, Margaret, and Helen. George, the
second son, succeeded his father in the lease of Boghead of
Kintore. David, third son, rented first the farm of Milltimber,
and afterwards that of Knockcmharn, in the district of Kin-
tore. He married Smith, Kintore, by whom he had
two sons, William and James.
Alexander, fourth son of David Burnes, farmer, Boghead,
was a merchant-burgess of Aberdeen. He purchased the
estate of Mastrick, Aberdeenshire. By his wife, Elizabeth
Smith, he had a son, John, who died in childhood about 1840 ;
also a daughter, Elizabeth Smith. Born in 1823, she married,
