CARRICTHURA. 1^7
Forma Lodlnis in aequore sine coloje.
Venit ille ad habitationem suam ipsius.
Ejus nigra hastà * sine vi in ejus mano,
Ejus rutilo ociilo instar ignis coelorum,
Instar toiiitrus clivi ejus voce
In obscuritate atra procul ex adverse.
Sustulit Fingal in nocte suam hastam ;
Auditus est in campo ejus clamor.
Fill noctis, (absiste) à meo latere ^
Capesse ventum et esto abiens I
:Quare venias tu in meum conspectum, vir vane.
Tug simulacro aeque inani ac tua (sunt) arma ?
An metus mihi tua forma subfusca,
O larva circorum, qui sunt Lodinis ?
Jnfirmus est tuus clypeus et tua nubes baud gravis,
Tuus gladius nudus (est) instar ignis 3»^er magno fluctu.
Mittet flamen ea ex se ipsis, (i. e. disperget ea)
Et dispergeris tu ipse sine mora.
E meo conspectu, niger fili coelorum ;
Voca tuum flamen ad te ipsum, et esto abiens !
thy shield of clouds : feeble is that meteor, thy sword I
The blast rolls them together ; and thou thyself art lost.
Fly from my pi-esence, son of nigl\t ! call thy winds and
fly!
