| Description | Sheet 19 of the Ordnance Survey One-inch Popular Edition of Scotland. It was issued in 1930 at a scale of 1 inch to 1 mile (1: 63,360) from a survey done in 1927. The first Ordnance Survey of this area was done between 1871 and 1875. This sheet shows part of the north west coast of Sutherland and Wester Ross, from the Summer Isles in the north to Longa Island in the south, and inland as far as some way west of the road from Achiltibuie to Lochinver and south to Ullapool, to Loch Achall and almost to the head of Loch Broom, and then to somewhat west of the Dundonnell River. In the bottom left corner of the sheet is Longa Island and the sea loch of Loch Gairloch, with the promontory north of that, and then Loch Ewe and the Isle of Ewe to the north and west. Continuing diagonally across the sheet from lower left to upper right (south west to north east) are Gruinard Bay and Gruinard island, Little Loch Broom, then Loch Broom, the Isle of Martin and Loch Kinnaird, and then, as the coast changes direction, north and west, the Summer Isles. Ullapool is on the north west shore of Loch Broom. On the right, in the north, the sheet stretches from just east of Creag Dubh (1250 feet) to Loch na h Oidhche, west of Carn nam Feithean (1820 feet) and the Dundonnell River, in the south. On the left, in the north, the sheet stretches from a point in the 58 degrees north and 5 degrees and 52 minutes west, to Longa Island, in the south. There are two sets of References, the scale statement ‘One Inch to One Statute Mile - 1/63360’, with accompanying scale bar, and two further scale bars of 1 centimetre to 1000 yards and 1 centimetre to 1 kilometre. Contours and fathoms are shown, with accompanying information about measurement. |

The ‘Popular’ edition was particularly intended for the inter-war generation's leisure hours – cycling, touring or walking through the countryside. |
