215 Major General T. A. de Moleyns served in the Crimean campaign from July 1S55, including the siege and fall
of Sebastopol ( Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
217 Major General L. H. Denne served in the Crimean campaign from August 1855, including the siege and
fall of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
218 Sir Thomas Denuehy served in the Sonthal campaign of 1855-56, and commanded a detachment of two
Companies in action with the Insurgents at Chundkundra. Served also during the Indian mutiny of 1857-58,
and commanded the Head Quarters of the Allahabad Military Police Battalion at the actions of Manickpore and
Gadhamaron (twice thanked by the Governor General, Medal).
219 Major Genera! A. D. Denniss served in the Punjaub campaign in 1848-49 (Medal).
--" Major General J. Desborough served with the China Expedition of i860, and was present at Sinho, Tangku, cap-
ture of the Taku Forts, actions near Tangchow, and surrender of Pekin (Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps).
221 Major General A. A. Des Vceux served in the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1857, at the bombardment and
capture of the forts of Mohumra and the pursuit of the Persian army (Medal with Clasp) . Served with the Horse
Transport service in the China Expeditionary Force under Lieut. General Sir Hope Grant in i860, present at the
landing at Pehtang, action of Sinho, capture of Tangkow, assault and capture of the Taku Forts; accom-
panied the advance'of the army on Tien-Tsin and Pekin, including the battles of Chang-kia-Wan and Tungchow,
and occupation of Pekin (Medal with two Clasps).
223 Major General the Hon. G. T. Devereux served in the Kaffir war of 1852 (Medal), and was present at the
engagement with the Basuta tribes at Berea, 20th Dec. ; named in the official despatch, and received the Brevet
rank of Major for his services.
224 Major General W. Denis de Vitre served in the Persian Expedition of 1857 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the
latter part of the Afghan war trom November 18S0 as Brigadier General in command of nine batteries of Royal
Artillery (Medal).
225 Sir Francis de Winton served the Crimean campaign from January 1855, including the siege and fall of
Sebastopol, in the Trenches with the siege train, and bombardments of 9th April and 6th and 17th June — wounded
(Medal with Clasp, Knight of the Legion of Honor, and Turkish Medal). Commanded the expedition sent against
the Yonnies, on the West Coast of Africa, in 1887-88 (CB., and Medal with Clasp).
226 Major General W. A. Dick served with the 3rd Bombay Cavalry on the frontiers of Upper Sind from April to
Dec. 1846. Served with the Central India Field Force under Sir Hugh Rose in 1858-59, and was present at the siege
and capture of Ratghur, relief of Saugor, capture of Garrakota, and in command of a party of the 3rd Bombay
Cavalry which surprised and cut up the enemy's outlying Picquet during the advance on that fortress (specially men-
tioned) at the Maethone Pass ; present at the siege and capture of Jhansi and taking of Calpee ; commanded the
Head Quarters Wing of the 3rd Bombay Cavalry on the march from Etowa to Devpora, when the Rear Guard was
attacked by the rebel Army, also during the advance on Gwalior, at the action of Morar, capture of Gwalior, and
with the Column under Sir Robert Napier at the battles of Jaura and Alipoor (Brevet of Major) ; served with a
detached Field Force in the Jhansi and Jaloun district during the monsoon of 1858, and at the affairs of Mhow and
Mahonie (Medal with Clasp).
227 Major General W. R. Dickinson served with the Persian Expeditionary Force in 1856-57, ar.d was present at the
storming of Reshire, capture of Bushire, and battle of Khooshab (Medal with Clasp).
228 Major General E. J. Dickson served in the Kafir war of 1846-47 (mentioned in despatches, Medal).
239 Major General E. L. Dillon served with the 18th Royal Irish in the Crimean campaign from the 30th Dec. 1S54,
including the siege and fall of Sebastopol ; volunteered to rescue from under a heavy fire of grape, shell and
musketry seven wounded men who were in the advanced house at the attack of the Cemetery and suburbs of
Sebastopol on the 18th June 1855, and succeeded in doing so (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
283 Major General M. C. Dixon served in the Eastern campaign in 1855, in the Trenches with the siege train before
Sebastopol, and at the bombardments of April and 6th andT^th June (Medal with Clasp, Brevets of Major and
Lt.Colonel, Victoria Cross, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class cf the Medjidie. and Turkish Medal) : received
the ITt£ under the following circumstances: — " On the 1 7th April 1855, about 2 p.m., when the Battery he com-
manded was blown up by a shell from the enemy, which burst in the magazine, destroyed the parapets (at Sebas-
topol), killed and wounded ten men, disabled five guns, and covered a sixth with earth ; for most gallantly reopening
tire with the remaining gun before the enemy had ceased cheering from their parapets (on which they had mounted)
and fighting it until sunset, despite the heavy concentrated fire of the enemy's batteries, and the ruined state of
his own."
234 Major General T. F. Dixon served with the 39th Regiment in the Crimea from December 1854 to February,
1855, including the siege of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Tuikish Medal).
236 Major General W. Dowell served in the Sonthal campaign in 1855. Also in the Indian mutiny campaign
in 1857-58, including the captures of Lucknow and Bareilly, battles of Sundeelaand Jamoo, and capture of Burwah
— mentioned in despatches (Medal with Clasp, and Brevet of Major).
237 Major General M. F. Downes served in the Crimean campaign from May to August 1S55, including the siege
of Sebastopol (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medal).
238 Sir Charles Walters D'Oyly served the Gwalior campaign, including the battle of Punniar 01: 29th Dec. 1843
(Bronze Star).
240 Major General A. W. Drayson served in the Kafir war in 1S47 (Medal).
242 Major General F. B. Drew served in the Afghan war 1S78-70, and was present in the engagement in the
Koorum Valley on the 28th November 1878, and in command of the'ist Brigade at the capture of the Peiwar Kotal
on the 2nd December ; commanded the same Brigade in the operations in the Hariab and Khost Valleys, including
some miner engagements (mentioned in despatches, CB., and Medal with Clasp).
246 Major General H. W. H. D. Dumaresq served at the sie<re and fall of Sebastopol from July 1855 ; did duty in
the Trenches of the right attack (Medal with Clasp, and Turkish Medall.
24S Major General C. W. Dun served with Brigadier Watson's Force in the Saugor and Nerbudda Territories from
sst March to 25th April 1843, and from 10th October to 8th November 1S43. Was present during the Chinese riots
at Singapore in May 1854.
250 Major General H. A. Dwyer served in the Sutlej campaign in 1846 and was present at the bxttle of Sobraon
(Medal). Served also in the Indian Mutiny campaign in 1S57-5S, including the'siege and capture of Delhi, and
capture of Jhujjur (Medal with Clasp).
251 Major Geneial W. H. S. Earle served in the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the battles of Chillian-
wallah and Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Present at an atfair in the Boree Passinr<ov. 1853; also in operations
against the Afreedies in March 1855 (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-58 (Medal).
252 Major Genera C. Eccles served with the 4th Regiment throughout the Eastern campaign of 1S54-55, includ-
ing the battles of Alma (carried the Colours) and Inkerman, siege and fall of Sebastopol, and assaults of the 18th
June and 8th September (Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Turkish Medal) .
234 Major Genera! H. Edmeades served in India in 1S57-58, and was present at the action of Kaiee Nuddee,
battle of Cawnpore on 6th Dec, and action of Sherghur Ghat (Medal). Served in the Boer war of 1881 with the
Natal Field Force.
255 Major General Arthur Elderton served throughout the Punjaub campaign of 1848-49, including the action of
Ramnuggur, passage of the Chenab, and battles of Chillianwall'ah and Goojerat (severely wounded), and pursuit
of the Sikhs and Atfghnns (Medal with two Clasps). Served throughout the siege of Delhi in numerous engage-
ments, and was se merely wounded at the taking of three guns outside the Cashmere Gate ; and was again severely
wounded at the assault and capture of the city. Commanded the 2nd Sikh Irregular Cavalry with various
columns in Oude aud Rohilkund, and at the action of Biswa. Commanded a column in pursuit of the rebel
leader Desput (Medal with Clasp).
2C0 Major General M. Elliot served in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny ; took part in the actions of the 30th
end 31st May 1857 on the Hmdun, commanded bis battery throughout the latter action ; was present at the battle
01' Budleekeserai, the siege and assault of Delhi (severely wounded in the head on the 15th September) , and several
minor actions — slightly wounded on two occasions (Medal with Clasp). Served throughout the Hazara campaign
of 1868 on the Black Mountain in command of the Peshawar Mountain Battery (Medal with Clasp). Served in the
