in Dr. Charles Bannatyne’s MSS., under the
title of Cumha Fhionnlaidh Mhor. It is pub¬
lished in Major-General Thomason’s collection
of Ceol Mor.

Mr. MacDougall adds this interesting note to
these words :—“What is meant by “toireadh
nan sath” is, that Iain Ban was the one to give
thrusts with his sword, and cut the bones
through with it. “Ga’n toiridh” means giving
the thrusts. The phrase apparently intends to
give one an idea of a man who could slash
and stab with his sword. I was told that
these were the words for the “Glas-mheur,”
or some of them, but as I do not play the tune,
I cannot say for certain.”

Ross’s and D. Glen’s Collection of Piobair-
eachd, in Major-General Thomason’s Ceol Mpr,
and, under the title of "The Banquet'' in “The
Piobaireachd as MacCrimmon played it” lately
published by J. M‘Lennan, Edinburgh. It is
also in Angus Mackay’s MSS. and the Ballep-
dalloch MSS.
