changes in the regulations of the Department.
If they succeeded in stirring up Highland
School Boards to a greater interest in the
study of Gaelic, any changes in the regula¬
tions of thie Department which these Boards
might represent to them as being desirable in
the interests of sound education would receive
the most attentive and respectful consideration.
Mr. Macleod having again thanked Mr.
Struthers for granting the interview, which he
felt had led to a better comprehension of the
Department’s attitude, and which he hoped
had also enabled Mr. Struthers better to under¬
stand their own aims, the deputation withdrew.
“SORAIDH LE GEARRLOCIi.”
i.e Alasdair Camashron,
“ Bard Thournaig ” Amhainn-Iiibh Ros.
Air Fonn—Variation of “ Loch Lomond.''
Soraidh chridheilchairdeil le Gearrlochatuath,
Eadar fhirichean, is chuan agus oban,
Fhad’s bhios anail ann mo chom, gu’m bi
m’ aigne ort an geall,
Bho’n dhealaich mi ri m’ annsachd-sa ’san
bg-mhios.
Ged is eiginn ’bhi fagail nan earn is nam
bruach;
Far bu ghnath leam gu’m buaininn an
t-sbbhrach,
Ach ma bhios mo la buan, gu thigh’nn rathad
an taobh-tuath,
Thig mi fathast ’dh’ath-nuadhachadh m’
eolais.
Do na glinn’s am bi ’n iadhshlat ’cur sgiamh
air na meanglain,
Is eidheann mu na chrann, mar bu choir dhi,
I mar mhandal ’ga shuaineadh bho fhuar-dhealt
na h-oidhch’,
Anns na doireachan am binn guth na smeor-
aich’.
Inbhir-Chearraidh is an Gleann, cha ’n ’eil
samhladh dhoibh ann,
Torr-an-damhain mar bhean-bainnse air a’
comhdach,
Gheibhte an eilid is an earba, ri shealg ’measg
do fhraoich,
’S chuirte bradan ann ri thaod le fear-seolta.
Chi mi Baois-bheinn gu h-ard is beinn Alligin
thall,
’S iad gu meall-chorrach, allt-choireach
ceothar,
’S far an cluinnte an damh ri buirich’ ’fo
dhluth-bhrath na’ h-oidhche,
A’toirt dubhlain dha’naimhdean tha’n tbir air.
Guidheam soraidh ghraidh leis an Aird’s leis
“A’ Bhanc,”
Leis a Chrasg, Creag a’ Chait, is an Grbban,
Leisgach caochan is alltan is meallagus glac,
Anns an trie bha sinn tacan a’ comhradh.
Soraidh le do ghainmhichean is meanbh-
bhristeach tonn,
’S le do mhealbhanan tolltach cbsach,
Tha do shligean mar na daoimein a’ boills-
geadh ri grein’,
Leam a’ b’ annasach an leughadh ’nan dor-
laich.
Air feasgar’s trie a dhearrsas mar sgathan an
cuan,
’Toirt ath-fhoillseachadh nuadh agus nbsar,
Chite’ gach craobh agus crann anns a’ ghrunnd
bun os ceann,
Is na h-uile rud a th’ann a’ co’-chordadh.
Gur e thromaich ort mo ghaol, eadar chlad-
aichean is aonaich,
Do chaithrichean do mhaoiltean’s do chbsan,
Ged bhios frasan agus gaoth ann, bhiodh
fasgadh air gach taobh dhinn,
’S cha n’ aithrisinn mo shaorsa ri m’ bheb
dhuibh.
’S ged bhiodh tamull riut mo chul, bi mo dhuil,
'thighinn air m’ ais,
Do an duthaich a’s taitniche doighean
’S guidheam soraidh leis an tir eadar chlad-
aichean is ghlinn,
Leis na ceatharnaich’s os ceann sin na h-
bighean.
