Nan was born in Peterculter to the west of Aberdeen. She is now best known for her prose, non-fiction masterpiece, 'The living mountain'.
Spending time in the Cairngorms, she was moved to write what she saw and felt. She wrote poetry, largely about her beloved mountains.
