The Lyon in Mourning

Description

The Lyon in Mourning manuscripts recount the Jacobite rising of 1745 to 1746 using eye-witness accounts. They are a compilation of interviews and letters created by Bishop Robert Forbes (1708 to 1775) in 10 volumes. Some of the volumes have Jacobite relics attached, such as scraps from items of clothing worn by Charles Edward Stuart (1720 to 1788). Forbes was a supporter of the Jacobite cause. He compiled the manuscripts between 1747 and 1775.
