GREENOCK v. UDDINGSTON at Glenpark—May 22nd,
1937.
Extract from
Greenock Telegrafih
of May 24th, 1937.
When P. J. F. Williamson came in the ` fireworks ' began.
He was particularly severe on Hipkin, and in the first over scored
six runs, while in the next he also reached the boundary with a
straight drive. A. Neill was not scoring much, but he was breaking
the back of the bowling. He hit out at McDowall to send up
the half-century in 43 minutes.
" Williamson went merrily along, hitting boundaries off
Hipkin's bowling. Twice he drove the slow bowler's deliveries
to the Union Street end, and then he did the same to McDowall
at the Bedford Lane end. In fifteen minutes he scored 30 runs,
to bring the total within four of victory. The winning hit was
a spectacular one. Hipkin was again the ` victim ' as Williamson
lifted the ball clean out of the ground into Fox Street."
