GREENOCK v. AYR at Cambusdoon—May 9th, 1936.
Extract from
Greenock Telegraph
of May 11th, 1936.
In an exciting finish at Cambusdoon on Saturday, Greenock
beat Ayr by 9 runs in their second Western Union Championship
match this season.
" Although play was keen and interesting during the major
portion of the game, there was a lack of venturesome batting on
both sides, and the rate of scoring was slow. Ayr, at one period,
looked like bringing off a surprise win, but their last three batsmen
failed. Greenock's 80 runs took 87 minutes to score, and Ayr's
71 were knocked up in 100 minutes. Averaged over the playing
time, one run was scored every two minutes.
" Ayr played dogged cricket when it came their turn at the
crease. I. T. Parker carried his bat for 44 not out, a really splendid
performance in which he gave only one chance during a stay of
100 minutes."
