I
GREENOCK CRICKET CLUB, SEASON 1925 167
GREENOCK v. UDDINGSTON at Bothwell Policies
August 22nd, 1925.
Extract from
Greenock Telegrafih of
August 24th, 1925.
" Smith began his destructive work right away and sent the
shivers into the other camp when Mellor—as Tennant in the
previous match—was bowled by the second ball he got. The
undermining influence
of
such a start was all too evident during
the innings
of
the Uddingston players. Wednesday five for
twenty-one ; Saturday five for twenty-five. Carnie, too, had a
word to say in the early stages in the gaining of this result. The
highest praise must go to Cruickshanks who manfully stemmed
the disastrous onrush, and emerged at the top of the scoring
tables."
(Greenock beat Uddingston the previous Wednesday in the
final
of
the Charity Cup at Hamilton Crescent).
