GREENOCK
v.
UDDINGSTON at Glenpark—June 8th,
1901.
Extract from
Greenock Telegraph
of June 10th, 1901.
" Seven wickets were down for 73, the highest scorer up to
this point being A. L. Graham. For a time it looked as if there
was going to be a general collapse, but J. M. Kerr and W. C. Simpson,
on getting together, put quite a different complexion on the innings.
Simpson batted in grand. style, and although he gave one or two
chances, his performance was certainly the best of the afternoon.
He was quite at ease with the bowling, and neither Hirst not
Paterson were able to make any impression. He drove to the
boundary on no fewer than thirteen occasions, and when ultimately
held by Lee he had succeeded in completing 68 runs. His partner
likewise gave a good account of himself, when once he got set on
the bowling, and contributed materially to the total. Notwith-
standing their efforts, however, the Greenock eleven were all out
for 175 shortly before the call of time."
