In early life he was a• keen sportsman 'and captained his
college eleven in 1860-61.
In
1863 he formed his first
school team, which had a brilliant career. On the forma-
tion of the
,
London Schools' F.A. in, 1893, Major Stokoe
was elected chairman, an office he has been re-elected to
each year since. In the following year his enthusiasm for
the game led him, with Mr. W. J. Wilson and others, to
start the Old Londonians F.C. for the benefit of the Old
Boys, who had pagsed through the school teams. This
club met with much success, and in 1899 carried off both
the Surrey Junior Cup and County League. In 1899 he
