TO JOHN O' GROAT'S
zg
Sunday, September 4th,
AS observed as a day of rest. All
record-breakers, I believe, rest on
Sunday. It was a mosit anxious day
for me. Here I was awaiting an attendant
whom I had only met on one occasion ; all
previous arrangements wanting overhauling.
However, after months of training and cal-
culating, I did not intend to be daunted by a
small thing. Nothing short of an earthquake
would have stopped me now ; on the contrary,
I determined to reach Glasgow the following
Saturday, if possible. There I knew friends
would be awaiting me to give me all the help
I needed.
Attendant No. z arrived on Sunday after-
noon, and my plans were placed before him.
He entered heartily into the spirit of the walk,
especially when he knew that 8o miles had
been cut off the record already.
