effect that he captured nine wickets for
25 runs in Scotland's first innings.
D. Livingstone, another off-spinner, who
had 11 wickets for 51 runs over the
match, has never bowled better for
Scotland, and on other occasions might
have been a match-winner.
It was also a trifle ironic that Brown,
the Scots wicket-keeper, should also
finish on the losing side after equalling a
world record by catching four opponents
and stumping three in Ireland's second
innings. Six wicket-keepers now share
this world record, the only other post-
war instance being provided by H.
Yarnold (Worcestershire) against Scot-
land in 1951. Brown's feat was later
recognised by the S.C.U., when they
presented him with a silver-mounted ball.
