In1911aclockwasaddedtothefrontofthePavilion,andthis
longfeltwantwaspresentedtotheClubthroughthegenerosityof
MessrsDavidandJohnBrownon12thAugustofthatyear.These
two-gentlemen,stillhappilywithus,-hauesincetheiryoungest.days
alwaystakenthekeenestpossibleinterestintheaffairsoftheClub,
bothonandoffthefield,andbothweremembersofthefirstelevenfor
manyyears.In1884DavidplayedforScotlandagainstthe
AustraliansinEdinburgh,andwasalwaysingreatdemandinrepre-
sentativeandotherspecialgamesinhisyoungerdays.Theyboth
celebrated50years'unbrokenmembershipoftheClubin1921,and
thismustsurelyconstitutearecordforClubmembershipinScotland.
In1906thefieldwaspurchasedbythelateMrJohn1V1`Kane,of
Nevada,anativeofthetown,andpresentedtotheClub.Inrecog-
nitionofthismunificentgift,thenameofthegroundwaschangedto
thatofthe1V1.`KanePark,andwillforalltimebeknownassuch.
OntheinvitationoftheotherClubswhoarenowmembersofwhat
isknownastheScottishCountiesUnion,theDunfermlineClub,in
1906,wereaskedtotakepartasFifeshireinaCounties'Championship
Competition,andafterfullconsiderationagreedtodoso,andhave
carriedoneversince.
AlthoughtheClubhasneverwontheChampionshipithason
severaloccasionscomeveryneardoingso,andwithalittlemoreluck
mighthavedoneso.Ithasalwaysbeenaforcetobereckonedwith,
andhasputupmanysplendidperformances,bothonitsownand
itsopponents'ground.InthesematchesplayersresidentintheCounty
orwithabirthqualificationareeligibletotakepart,andtheClubis
verygratefultoquiteanumberofplayersfromotherClubswho
havegivenloyalandenthusiasticsupportfromtheverybeginning.
Theprofessionalcricketerhasformanyyearsbeenrecognised
asanabsolutenecessitytotheexistenceofclubcricketinScotland,and
formanyyearsscarcelyaclubofanystandinghasnothadits
professionalcoach.Dunfermlineinthatrespectwasnoexception,and
in1864theyengagedtheirfirstprofessional,inthepersonofE.Pearce,
andsincethattime,withtheexceptionofthewaryears,theyhave
alwayshadtheassistanceofaprofessionalorcoach.Mitchell,Tolson,
Ashworth,Hynd,Bancroft,Ilouldsworth,Morris,Hanson,Blakelock,

varyingsuccess,eachhelpingintheirownwayandbytheirown
