trates,requestingthattheirrightofvetooftherules
forthefuturemightbewaived;butitwasreported
inMarchofthefollowingyearthattherewasnohope
oftheTownCouncilrelinquishingtheirrights,andthe
applicationwasthereuponwithdrawn.TheCorporation
hasformanyyearspastbeeninthehabitofentertaining
itscivicguestsandparticularlyitsforeignvisitorsinthe
club-houseandonthecourseatBarnton—aprivilege
whichisgreatlyappreciatedbyourcivicfathersand
invariablyendorsedbytheirguests,apartfromthefact
thatitisagracefulcomplimenttotheSociety.
ThecentenaryofthegrantingoftheSealofCause
wascelebratedbyentertainingrepresentativesofthe
CorporationandotherstoluncheonatBarntonon
2ndJulyigoo.
TheSealofCause,dated2ndJulyzBoo,isrecorded
forpreservationintheBooksoftheLordsofCouncil
andSessionon27thOctober1894.ItisnowinH.M.
RegisterHouse,enclosedinatincasewithaspecial
sectionfortheattachedSealoftheCity.Thedocu-
mentisverymuchfaded,andthesecondandthird
pagesareindecipherableinparts.'
