He had a rofe into his hand,
And he gave it kiffes three,
And, reaching it by the nut-browne bride,
Laid it on fair Annets knee.
Up than fpak the nut-browne bride,
She fpak wi' meikle fpite ;
And whair gat ye that rofe-water,
That -does mak yee fae white ?
" O I did get ' that' rofe-water,
Whair ye wull neir get nane,
For I did get that very rofe-water,
Into my mithers warne,"
The bride fhe drew a long bodkin,
Frae out her gay head-gear,
And ftrake fair Annet unto the heart,
That word fhe nevir fpak mair.
Lord Thomas he faw fair Annet wex pale,
And marvelit what mote bee :
But whan he faw her dear hearts blude,
A' wood- wroth wexed hee.
He drew his dagger, that was fae fharp,
That was fae fharp and meet,

That fell deid at his feit,
