Cromlecks. in Perthshire, and Miss Helen Murray, a daughter of Stirling of Ardoch, commonly known, on account of her great beauty, a^
" Fair Helen of Ardoch." The incident, which' took place during the"^ reign of James VI.. is too well known to repeat here. Botlj ballad
and air are included in the second edition of Thomson's Orpheus Caledonins, vol. ii., i"33. Geddes chose the air for one of the Iiynins in the
Saivts' Recreation, compiled in 1673, and published in Edinburgh in 1683. This hymn is entitled *'The Pathway to Paradise; or, The-
Pourtraiture of Piety."
