PRAYER, UNDER AFFLICTION.
Almighty Power, who wings the storm.,
And calms the raging wind.
Restore health to my wasted form.
And tranquillize my mind.
For, ah ! how poignant is the grief
Which self-misconduct brings.
When racking pains find no relief^
And injur'd conscience stings*
Let penitence forgiveness pleach
Hear lenient mercy's claims.,
Thy justice let be satisfied.
And blotted out my crimes.
But should thy sacred law of right.
Seek life a sacrifice,
O ! haste that awful, solemn nighty
When death shall veil mine eyes.
