I’ll row ye in my plaidie,
And ye maun gang alang wi’ me,
And be a Highland lady.
“ I’m fure they wad nae ca’ me wife,
Gin I wad gangwi’ you, hr:
For I can neither card or fpin.
Nor yet milk ewe or cow, hr.’
“ My bonny Lizae Baillie,
Let nane o’ tbefe things daunt ye;
Ye’ll ha’e nae need to card or (pin.
Your mither weel can want ye.”
Now fhe’s cad aff her bonny fhoen,
Made o’ the gilded leather;
And llie’s put on her Highland brogues,
To fidp amang the heather.
And llie’s cad alf her bonny gown,
Made o’ the hik and fatin;
And die’s put on a tartan plaid,
To row amang the braken.
She wad nae ha’e a Lawland laird,
Nor be an Englifh lady ;
But die wad gang wi’ Duncan Grseme,
And row her in his plaidie.
