him to paint, perfyte and finish the roof of the dining-rowme
immediatlie off the great hall upon the plaister yrof. this is to
be done and is to contain the full historie of some one or oyr
of Ovid’s Metamorphosis And it’s designed by Mr De Vite and
expected by the sd Earle that the same shall be well done as y4
it may be of credit to the one and satisfactione to the oyr.
3rd There is Lykewayes to be a rowme for the storie of
Icarus in the midle of the plaister of the bed chamber to be
done by him.
4th There are lykwayes fyve chimneys and fourteen doore
peeces of the high apartment off the hall to be done upon
cloath of the bignesse of the pannels and to be fixed within the
same and lykwayes in the apartment off the Low Hall yere are
four chimneys and eleven doore peeces to be finished and done
upon canvaess as sd is, and all these are to be representationes
of figures and poeticall fictions or such oyr things as are usuall
and proper.
5th The sd Earle is to cause prime the roofe of the Chappel
and such pannels of the syd walls qron the abmen. pictures are
to be drawn, and the roof of plaister in the Dyning rowme so
far to prepare it for Mr De Vite’s work. As Lykwayes to
furnish oyle to him for the painting and cloath or canvass for
the whole chimney and door pieces.
6th As lykways the sd Earle In contemplne of the sd Mr De
Vite’s works and in full satisfactione and recompense yerfore
Is to be bound and oblidged Lyk as he be the tenor hereof
binds and oblidges him and his airs to pay to the sd Mr De
Vite or to his order or asseyns the sowme of ffourscore and
ten pound sterling the one half yerof is to be payed at
such times as he shall call or have occasion e for it at any
time dureing the work provyding that before the pay4 of
the full half three pairts of foure of the whole work be done
and the oyr equall half of the sowmes so agried on shall be
thankfullie payd at his finishing and perfecting the same.
He the sd Mr De Vite is lykwayes to have his bed and board
in the familie so long as the same remaines at the place.
And it is agreed upon y4 the p4ie failzing shall pay to the p4ie
