— In the autumn of 1746 this man ambushed a party
of nine English soldiers near Tummel Bridge and
disarmed them and escaped with their arms. In
1747 he went in to Inverness and was seized and
imprisoned. While there some prisoners escaped
but he refused to go with them. Representa¬
tions were made on his behalf by Robertson of
Inches and he was released. He had fought all
through the campaign. To the countryside he
was known as ‘ Rob Bane.’—Stewart of Garth,
i. 40.
— Journeyman barber. No further reference to him.
—Albemarle, ii. 394.
— ‘ Farmer.’ A ‘ journeyman goldsmith in Edin¬
burgh ’ of this name appears in the list of men
sent to Carlisle. It may have been this man.
A man of this name, aged 20, a barber, appears
in the Carlisle list for transportation. It appears
unlikely that he would have been a Captain at
