panied them into England, was at Falkirk and

Was discharged by order of Duke of Newcastle
for want of evidence against him.—Scots Mag.,

Cornet, has no commission.’—S.P.D., 86-55, 84-2,
88-60 ; P.R., 3622-12.
— He was undoubtedly de jure 5th Lord Mordington
but had never assumed the title on his father’s
death in June 1741. He was taken prisoner
and arraigned at Carlisle 11th Sept. 1746 on
a charge of high treason. The nature of his
offence is not known. As ‘ Charles Douglas, Esq.’
he then pleaded his Peerage as heir male of the
body of the second peer. The plea remained
