Servant to Benbecula. Turned King’s Evidence.
He was in the house of Dick, the messenger, for
a year, and was never brought to trial. On 11th
June 1747 he was released.—Scots Mag., 1747,
292 ; S.P.D., 98-41 ; Albemarle, i. 70.
Captured at fall of Carlisle. ‘ Taken in actual
rebellion.’—S.P.D., 81-88. Pleaded guilty at
his trial on 2nd Oct. 1746 and was sentenced to
death, but reprieved.—S.P.D., 88-42; Scots
Mag., 1746, 483, 543 ; Atkoll, iii. 132.
Itinerant tailor.—S.P.D., 87-122. ‘ Capt. Fer¬
guson reports he was guilty of many acts of
barbarity and was to be employed by Barrisdale
to undertake the murder of him.’—S.P.D., 88-60.
Against his name is stated : ‘ Evidence against
Lord Lovat.’ He was still in Tilbury Fort in
April 1747. He was released after Lovat’s
execution.—S.P.D., 93-147, 96-64, 97-133.
