the right way. I continued uneasy about my cutting down the man; till one
Sabbath night as my Minister was asking the Questions in the Catechism14 at
me & the rest in the Family, it fell to my share to answer that Question, What
is required in the 6th Commandment, and in repeating the Answer, The 6th
Commandment requires all lawful Endeavours to preserve our own life & the
life of others: I was made to see I had been only doing my duty in that matter.
But after this, thinking I was not in a right way, I laid by my Bible, &
refraind prayer, thinking that my reading & praying when I was not right,
would but aggravate my Condemnation: & continued to do so for four days:
But at the end of the 4th day, that word came into my mind with great life &
power ‘Return O Shulamite, return,15 & after that, it was added, For I am
God & there is none else beside me:16 which engagd me to return to reading
the Bible & Prayer, which I never ommitted one day since.
