prise de possession par vous faicte du royaume pour la
Royne, Madame vostre fille. Laquelle, je vous asseure
croist tous les jours en beaute et vertuz,1 de sorte que nous
en sentons tous honnorez : je ne vous diray rien du grant,
contentement que le Roy en a et de ce qu’avez faict pour
la Royne, Madame vostre dicte fille, remectant a ce que
ledict Seigneur vous en escript ainsi que faict aussi de sa
part mon frere M.le Cardinal, vous suppliant au-demeurant,
Madame, croyre que ne trouverez tousiours prest a vous
faire tout le service que me commanderez.
Madame, je me recommande tres humblement a vostre
bonne grace et prye Dieu vous donner en sante bonne vye

From the Controller Jehan Bougouin to the Queen Dowager
1554. Vol. iv. 29.
He wrote on the 24th of the month by Captain Gaillard ; now that
Astier is starting he will show the Queen how matters are going and give
a detailed account of expenses. The preceding day M. de Puiguillon
sent for him to endorse a note which he had given him of the Queen’s
commands. The writer said that it was not the Cardinal’s business to
answer it, but Puiguillon said that the Cardinal answered by him. The
writer had kept the different matters apart, as he was charged. In one
place it was said that he asked for a clerk. Astier will explain the matter ;
the writer had thought they might share one. M. de Puiguillon told
him that there was one who knew his work well. The writer thinks
that those who started the household found they could not run it, and
