30^.—I went to the fields with my brother Will., who slew
6 partridges, with a spar hauke.
3\st.—I went to Culross with my mother, and was with my
Lady Kincardine and in Will. Adams.
September 1^, 1683.—I got little read, being frequently
with the shearers. Jo. Spens was in Torrie.
%d.—I heard Mr. Jo. Yle.
3d.—Will. Adam was here and Alexander Colvill.
Mh.—I went the length of Valleyfield brae with my brother
Will., where we met Bailie Blaw, and brought him to Torrie.
Will, went to Jo. Blackater’s burial, after dinner, with him.
5th.—The Lady Blair and her son Broomhall, Miss J.
Lumsden, Lady Gask’s son, Mr. Alexander Dalgleish, and
David Erskine, were here.
Qth.—The rain stopped harvest work.
Ith.—Mr. Ro. Anderson was here. I heard Mr. Jo. Dick 2
was taken about 14 days ago, and now sentenced to die the
latter end of this month.
3th. —The Lady Gask1 and her son dined here.
2th.—I heard Mr. R. A., Isa. 22. v. 12, 13, 14; and Mr. Jo.
Yle, Psalm 119. 165.
This was the day appointed by the King, to be keeped in all
his dominions as a fast day, for his delivery from the late con¬
spiracy designed by the presbyterians, as the printed paper
says; it was indeed a day of insulting and triumphing over
poor presbyterian people. Many who had gone to church
withdrew this day.
\0th.—J. K. came to Torrie this night.
ID/t.—I was seeing the corn cut in the barnyard, and whiles
forking.
12,th.—J. Crockat was with me. I stayed now daily at
home.
13th.—Mr. Jo. Gibbon and J. K. were with me a while.
14^.—I saw Will. Paton; Will. Sythrum came here this
night.

of Laurence Oliphant, younger, of Gask. Her son George succeeded to Gask.
3 Mr. John Dick, student of divinity, son of David Dick, writer in Edinburgh.
