Neill ther master, and that they would mantaine the house for
the Laird of Assint against the King and all that would take
his part. Lykeas John Mcean vie crocell, Angus Mckye in
Oldein, and the other Rebells with which the sd house wes
stuffed be the sd Neill, did, in performance of the sds treason¬
able expressions throwe ane great carr stone from the battle¬
ment of the house of designe to have brained the said Sheriff,
and did present above mentie. bendit guns to him when he
attempted to discharge his dewtie to his Majestic and the
Leidges in execution of the sd8 letters of ejection. And for the
assistance of his treasonable and rebellious garrison fortified
and mantained as sd is, the said Neill did lye in seight therof,
with his companies of armed men in militarie and battle array.
Lykeas the said Neill and his complices being upon the 28 of
February 1671 years, declaired fugitive be his Majestie’s Com¬
missioners of justiciarie for these and other crymes, these wes ane
Commission of fyre and sword directed be the Lords of his
Majesties Privie Counsill to the Earle of Seaforth, Lord Lovitt,
Laird of Foulis, and others, ag* the sd Neill Mcleod and his
accomplices, and yet the sd Neill having informed himself of
the said Commission, did most insolentlie and treasonablie,
upon the first, second, or third dayes of May, June, July 1672,
or ane or other of the dayes of the said moneths, convocat and
raise in armes four hundred brocken men, over whom he placed
Captaines, Leivtennents, Ensignes, and other officers, and for
seall weeks together did muster and dreivell them, and displayed
collors, and did swear them to the samen, and did reinforce
the garrison of Ardbrack with men, armes, powder, ball, and
other necessaries for warr, and the Earle of Seaforth having
upon his great chairges and expenses, In obedience to the Com¬
mission given to him, convocat and gathered together eight
hundred men, did march to the said house with cannon and
other engynes for battering the said house, notwithstanding
that the said Neill and the other rebells wer requyred and
chairged in his Majesties name to render up the said house
and to dismiss the forces he hade raised in armes, yet the sd
Neill and the Rebells and brocken men putt in for maintaining
the sd house of Ardbrack be the said Neill, did vilipend and
sleight the samen, and did return this treasonable answer, that
