LETTERS OF POPE BENEDICT XIII
of birth as the son of a married man and a nun to be promoted to
all holy orders and first to hold one benefice even if with cure, then
to hold two or three other benefices even if canonries and prebends
in cathedral churches and one with cure, and subsequently to hold
a major or principal dignity in a cathedral or collegiate church, now
to hold episcopal and archiepiscopal dignities, granted at the petition
of Archibald, earl of Douglas, whose familiar he once was; notwith¬
standing that he is known to hold a canonry of Glasgow and the
prebend of Askuk, value not exceeding 20 merks sterling to a non¬
resident, and the said parish church of Kyrkandris, value not ex¬
ceeding ^20 sterling to a non-resident.

To the subdean of Glasgow. Mandate granted at the request of
Thomas, bishop of Candida Casa, to protect the said Thomas and
his successors in possession of the lands and heredities of Innermasan,
Dyrmor, Innysmocrinyl, Kykkenot, Mirtum and Nicoltum,1 Can¬
dida Casa diocese, which had been granted to the bishopric under
Eliseus or some other predecessor of Thomas, and which are being
molested.

To the bishop of St Andrews. Mandate to confer on Robert de
Knokis, monk of Kylweynnyn, osb, an annual pension for seven
years from the fruits of the abbey, to enable him to study letters at
a university, provided that the monastery is not burdened thereby.
