To the bishop of St Andrews. Mandate to grant to Bean, bishop of
Argyll, faculty to dispense any person of his city and diocese of any
defect of birth to be promoted to all holy orders and to hold two
benefices even if one of them is in a cathedral church, and if the
person is a fifth year student of theology to hold three benefices
even if one is a canonry and prebend in a cathedral church, and if
the person holds a master’s degree in theology, a licenciate or
doctorate in law, or is the son of a king, duke, earl or sheriff then
to hold one, two or more benefices, with or without cure even if
they are canonries, prebends, dignities, parsonages, administrations
or offices in cathedrals, provided they are not major or principal
dignities in cathedral or collegiate churches; notwithstanding the
said defect of birth or the constitutions of the council of Poitou or
any other statutes and customs to the contrary, to be effective for
two years from the date of the present letters.

choice to benefices, vacant or to be vacant, secular and regular,
elective and non-elective, in the city and diocese of Argyll, provided

churches, or conventual priories, if their provision according to the
decrees of the Lateran council has devolved to the papacy or is
specially reserved; and anyone so instituted is held to demit any
