To Walter, bishop of Brechin. Indult. Walter had claimed that
several churches situated in mountainous regions of his diocese could
not be visited without great trouble and expense and that their
rectors asserted they had been paying visitation fees without reason.
By this indult Walter is to receive procuration dues in ready money
from churches, monasteries and other holy places in his city and
diocese where he has the right of visitation even if the procurations
are reserved to the papal camera, or conceded or reserved to any
other person, notwithstanding any constitutions of Innocent iv,
Gregory x and Benedict xn to the contrary; but this indult is not
to be used to compel payment beyond what they can comfortably
afford. Moreover two of the said churches, monasteries or holy
places in the mountainous regions are to be visited and procurations
are to be taken from them, and from those whose rectors assert as
above, wholly as much is to be taken as is wont to be paid by
similar churches in neighbouring dioceses.
