LETTERS OF POPE BENEDICT XIII
of the late Sir Robert Scot, Glasgow diocese, to avoid scandal arising
from the fact that they are living together and cannot get married
as they are related in the second degree of affinity. Absolution is
to be granted, and Alice and Richard may get married on the pay¬
ment of a certain sum of money, at the discretion of the mandatory,
to a holy place or to the poor of Christ.

To James Walteri, canon of Glasgow, archdeacon of Teviotdale,
lic.dec., m.a. Provision of James, constituted priest, to the arch¬
deaconry of Teviotdale, a non-elective dignity with cure unlawfully
detained by Gilbert de Mousaald, and to a canonry and prebend of
Glasgow, value not exceeding 10 shillings sterling [sic, see Reg Aven
329, 299V-300V, below p 175], vacant by the death of William
Macmorin who held also the parish church of Kirkpatrick without a
papal dispensation; notwithstanding that James is known to hold
a canonry and prebend in the church of Glasgow, a chaplaincy in
the chapel of Blessed Nicholas de Dalkeith, the vicarage of the
parish church of Innerlethan, St Andrews diocese, and is litigating
over the parish church of Magna Caveris, Glasgow diocese; but on
his peaceful assecution to the canonry, prebend and archdeaconry
he is held to demit the other canonry and prebend and to cede his
rights to Magnacaveris.

prebend of Glasgow, value not exceeding 40 shillings sterling to a
non-resident, vacant on the peaceful assecution of James Walteri to
the archdeaconry of Teviotdale with another canonry and prebend,
