LETTERS OF POPE BENEDICT XIII

cathedral church with powers of exchange even for an elective
dignity, by virtue of which dispensations John had obtained canonries
and prebends in the churches of Aberdeen and Ross and the perpetual
vicarage of Duffus, Moray diocese.

b.dec. Indult for John, of noble birth, to continue his studies in law
and medicine for a master’s and a doctor’s degree, notwithstanding
being a priest and a non-resident holder of the perpetual vicarage
of Duffus, whose annual value does not exceed ten merks sterling, or
notwithstanding any other papal constitutions to the contrary.

any defect of birth whether bom of adultery, incest or any unlawful
way, to be promoted to holy orders and to receive one benefice
even if with cure, notwithstanding the defect of birth and the con¬
stitutions of the council of Poitou to the contrary.

who are prevented from so doing by being related in the fourth
