Ad perpetuam rei memoriam. The petition of Archibald, earl of
Douglas, patron of the church of Blessed Mary of Lyncluden,
Glasgow diocese, had shown that this church has a provost and eight
perpetual chaplains appointed by apostolic authority and is accus¬
tomed to support twenty-four paupers, and that the administration
of its goods belong to the provost; but because of its distance from
Glasgow, about fifty miles, it is difficult for misdeeds to be corrected
by the ordinary, and the chaplains and clerks are vexed by troubles
and expenses, so the pope commands that the correction of the mis¬
deeds of the chaplains and clerks should pertain to the provost, and
of the provost’s misdeeds to the ordinary who also has the right of
hearing appeals by the chaplains or clerks against the provost or his
deputy.

Oct., anno 1 [13 Oct., 1394], the pope reserved to him any benefice
in St Andrews or Glasgow dioceses vacant before 10 Kal. Oct.
[22 Sept.], 1395, and as he has been envoy to the king and kingdom
of Scotland at great expense and trouble, the pope now grants to
him the privileges of a domestic papal familiar.
