and to take the oath of fealty.2

1 Although Benedict’s coronation was 11 October 1394, these letters must refer to
1394 as Reg Aven 281, 208 (above) shows the handing over to have taken place
later that year. William de Spyny (see above) appeared in the coronation roll {CPP,
>, 587).
2 The form of the oath is contained in Reg Aven 296, 109-109V.
