Awarded the Military Cross, 3rd June 1918, for conspicuous good and
gallant conduct as a company commander in the Hohenzollern Sector in
1916, where he was wounded, on the Somme in 1916, and at Arras on 9th
April 1917, where he was again wounded. On the latter occasion he was
in command of the firing line when it was held up at Railway Triangle, and
though severely wounded, maintained his position with great devotion till
the enemy resistance was overcome.

Awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to
duty. When the building in which a number of wounded men were lying
was heavily shelled, with the assistance of another man he succeeded in
carrying all the wounded into a cellar, though shells were continually
bursting in the building. He showed the greatest courage and determination.
