The Military Cross awarded to T/Lt. C. W. Soutar, M.G. Corps, for
conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, when in acting command of
his company he took charge at a time when only four guns out of sixteen
remained in action. These he retired to a new position given him, but
finding no field of fire, he advanced again on his own initiative and covered
the retirement of the infantry as long as it was necessary. (26th July
1918.)
