Elgin, 16th Sept., 1914 ; served in France ; wounded in foot and thigh, 6th June, 1917, foot
amputated ; awarded Military Cross. Son of William (deceased) and Jessie Hossack, Duff
Avenue, Elgin. Occupation, clothier.

joined in London, 13th June, 1916 ; served in Salonica. Son of John and Jane Hossack,
Forbesdale, Blackfriars Road, Elgin. Occupation, aerated water manufacturer.
HOULDSWORTH, James Filmer Hamilton. Capt., 1st Battn. Gordon Highlanders ; born at
Dublin, 29th August, 1892, father residing in Morayshire ; joined at Colchester, England, 21st
Feb., 1913 ; served in France and Belgium ; taken prisoner of war at Bertry, France, 27th
August, 1914, during Retreat from Mons. Son of James Hamilton Houldsworth, Dallas Lodge
Forres, and Albinia Mary Sullivan or Houldsworth. Occupation, officer in the army.
HOULDSWORTH, Henry Walter. Capt., 2nd Seaforth Highlanders ; born at Castlebank,
Lanark, Jan. 28th, 1896, residing in Morayshire ; joined at Cromarty, 17th Feb., 1915 ; served
in France and Belgium ; wounded at Ypres, 24th May, 1915, and severely wounded at Arras,
3rd May, 1917 ; mentioned in despatches, 24th May, 1915, and awarded Military Cross, 1917.
Son of Capt. J. and Mrs. Hamilton Houldsworth.
HO WAT, David Watson. No. 265254, Lee. /Cpl., i/6th Seaforths ; born at Markinch, Fifeshire,
6th April, 1895, residing in Morayshire since 1902 ; joined at Grantown-on-Spey, 24th April,
1913 ; served in France ; wounded at Festubert, 15th June, 1915, contracted trench fever,
wounded at Ypres, 1st August, 1917, and died of wounds at 33 C.C.S., 6th August, 1917. Son
of Joseph and Catherine Howat, Clifton House, Grantown-on-Spey. Occupation, cabinet
maker and musician.
IHOWISON, James William. No. 242268, Pte., Gordon Highlanders ; born at Knockando, 5th
Oct., 1882 ; joined at Elgin, 5th March, 1916 ; served in France ; killed near Arras, 17th May,
1917. Son of John (deceased) and Jane Howison. Occupation, distillery clerk.
HUGHES, Edward. No. 4937, Pte., Seaforth Highlanders ; born at Elgin, 19th Sept., 1895 ;
joined at Elgin, 22nd Sept., 1914 ; served in France ; shrapnel wound in left arm, 18th Dec,
1917, and taken prisoner of war, 10th April, 1918. Son of David (deceased) and Jean Hughes,
21, Victoria Crescent, Elgin. Occupation, gardener.
HUMPHREY, Alexander. No. 6198, Pte., 3 /6th Seaforths and 5th Seaforths ; born at Forres,
Morayshire, 2nd August, 1897 ; joined at Elgin, nth May, 1916 ; served in France ; killed
at Beaumont Hamel, 13th Nov., 1916. Son of John and Agnes Humphrey, Templand,
Lhanbryd. Occupation, joiner.
HUMPHREY, James. No. 300396, Gnr., R.FA and Tank Corps ; born at Partick, Glasgow,
20th April, 1891, residing in Morayshire for twelve years ; joined at Glasgow, 4th Sept., 1916 ;
