ASHER, George William. Capt., R.G.A., 1902, 3rd V.B., Sea. Highlanders ; born at Forres,
23rd Oct., 1882 ; joined at Nairn, 1898 ; mobilized August 5th, 1914, 6th Seaforth High-
landers ; transferred in 1916 to 4th Northumberland Fus., in command of 72nd Divisional
Cyclist Coy., 1917-18, now attached 18th Welsh Regt. ; served in France ; awarded 1914-15
Star. Son of John Asher (deceased), Forres, and Williamina Murray or Asher (deceased).
Occupation, merchant.

16th Sept., 1895 ; joined at Inverness, April, 1915 ; served in France ; slightly wounded.

Feb., 1892 ; joined at Elgin, Sept., 1914 ; served in France ; gassed in August, 1916, and
wounded in leg, arm and head in April, 1918. Son of Joseph Asher and Georgina Simpson
(both deceased). Occupation, tailor.

1892 ; joined at Fochabers, 6th April, 1913 ; served in France ; invalided with rheumatic

Asher. Occupation, chartered accountant's articled clerk.

1895 ; joined at Elgin, nth August, 1914 ; served in France ; invalided. Son of Alexander
Asher, East View, Maisondieu Place, Elgin, and Margaret Gray, or Asher. Occupation,
commercial clerk.
ASHER, John Alexander. 2nd Engineer on H.M.C.S. " Malaspine," Pacific Coast Defence, and
Mine Sweeping (B.C.), at present engineer on Auxiliary Sch. " Margaret Hamy," plying between
Bombay and Basra ; born at Forres, 15th March, 1889 ; joined at Vancouver, B.C., before
war broke out. Son of John Asher (deceased), Forres, and Williamina Murray or Asher.
Occupation, marine engineer.

Morayshire, 13th April, 1887 ; joined at Halifax, N.S., Canada, Nov., 1915 ; served in Canada
and England. Son of John Asher (deceased), 1, St. Leonard's Road, Forres, and Williamina
Murray or Asher. Occupation, banker.

25th August, 1893 ; joined at Aberdeen, Nov., 1912, 4th Batt. Gordon Highlanders (T.F.) ;
served in France ; accidently wounded in right leg ; awarded 1915 Star. Son of Alexander
and Margaret Asher, East View, Maisondieu, Elgin. Occupation, student.

1892 ; joined at Glasgow, 4th August, 1914, 5th Scottish Rifles ; served in France ; wounded
9th April, 1917, at Arras, and on 12th April, 1918, at Robecq, losing right leg and shattered
right scapula ; was prisoner of war in Germany ; awarded 1914-15 Star. Son of John Asher
(deceased), 1, St. Leonard's Road, Forres, and Williamina Murray or Asher. Occupation
accountant.
ASTELL, Godfrey. Colonel, King's Royal Rifles ; born in India, August, 1849, living at Moy
House, Forres ; joined at Winchester ; commanded at Depot, Winchester, for 3 years during
the war ; served in India, Burmah, and Africa. Son of Henry Astell, Old House, Ichwell,
Bedfordshire. Occupation, retired colonel.

Forres, for last 20 years ; joined at Aldershot, 1915 ; served in Palestine. Son of Col. and
