CORPS OF ROYAL ENGINEERS.
Distinguished Service Order.
Browne, Major Frederick Macdonnell. Gaz. 24/3/15.
Military Cross.
Mather, T./Lieutenant Ronald M'Alister. Gaz. 31/1/19.
For exceptional gallantry and coolness in action on 27th September, 1918,
near Havrincourt. When all lines to battalion headquarters were broken
he went forward under very heavy gas and shell fire and succeeded in
restoring communications, which were urgently required at the time, all
methods of visual signalling having failed owing to smoke and mist.
Italian Bronze Medal.
Carr-Harris, Lieutenant Gordon Grant Macdonnell. Gaz. 16/5/19.
INFANTRY.
THE ROYAL SCOTS (LOTHIAN REGIMENT).
Military Cross.
Loch, T./Captain Abram Donaldson. Gaz. 16/11/17.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in command of a
raiding party. It was largely due to him and to his initiative that a success
was achieved in spite of heavy fire. He showed himself throughout quite
regardless of personal danger and imbued all ranks under him with the
same spirit.
Bar to M.C. Gaz. 7/3/19.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty from 28th September to
20th October, 1918, from Zillebeke to East of Courtrai. He was on
battalion headquarters and was invaluable in carrying out orders. On two
occasions he carried out personal reconnaissances in very advanced positions
under heavy machine-gun fire and brought back valuable information. He
also twice accompanied the leading wave in order to report progress of the
attack. He set a fine example to all.
ROYAL SCOTS FUSILIERS.
Distinguished Service Order.
Shaw, T./Captain Archibald Douglas M'Innes. 1st Battalion. Gaz. 29/11/18.
For conspicuous gallantry and fine leadership in an attack. In thick fog
he led the leading Company successfully through to the final objective.
When his company was held up by machine gun fire from a trench, he
personally led a bayonet charge and captured the trench with twenty
prisoners. He then pushed on and captured 120 prisoners besides killing
many of the enemy. The success of the operation was largely due to his
marked courage and determination.
