For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in action. When the
battery was being heavily shelled, he was, although suffering from shell
shock, continually in the open, passing- orders, and by his courage and
splendid example under heavy shell fire, greatly encouraged the men
working at the guns.

For marked and consistent gallantry, ability, and devotion to duty during
the period 25th February, 1918, to 16th September, 1918. In handling
the supply of ammunition he has behaved in a most exemplary manner.
His courage and cool determination in overcoming obstacles in the course
of carrying out his duties under heavy shell fire have always set a most
excellent example to the men under his charge.
