Robert Louis Stevenson spent part of the summer of 1881 in Pitlochry and Braemar. He was working on various literary projects, including Treasure Island.

This notebook probably dates from some time that year. It contains drafts of various poems, notes for stories and essays, and some games of noughts and crosses. These pages are from the back of the notebook.
